Swarovski, Schonbek set to sparkle at Dallas show

Iconic lighting brands Swarovski and Schonbek are set to sizzle at the upcoming Dallas International Lighting Market with a fascinating display of their premium crystal lighting products.

Crystalline Icicles

On prominent display will be Swarovski Lighting Centerpieces, a line of signature luminaires completely manufactured by Swarovski and fashioned by esteemed designers that have redefined the traditional chandelier, setting new standards and concepts in motion to create the perfect symbiosis of crystal and light in a new, six-product lighting series.

Each piece in this collection has a modernist sensibility and a sculptural quality that breaks fresh ground in lighting design and is fitting to a variety of spaces and style preferences.

On exhibit will be Todd Bracher’s minimalist ‘Strandelier’ alongside the cunningly constructed, yet elusive, ‘Deconstruct’. The crystalline purity of nature is laid bare in ‘Crystalline Icicles’ by S Russell Groves, while Andre Kikoski’s ‘ReveaLED’ stuns with its otherworldly glow.

Stephen Burks’s ‘Inside/Out’ achieves a reductive elegance, as the expressionist ‘Crystal Empire’ surprises with its reinterpretation of the classic chandelier, harnessing crystal with leather strapping.

Also on view at the showroom will be the Schonbek 2012 Product Collection featuring both new products and line expansions across a range of traditionally rooted and for-today product categories. Of special note will be additions to the Ekaterina line.

Harri Koskinen’s COSY lamp

This darling of a translucent lamp is the piece to ‘light up’ a mood. I love the heaviness of the glass, which perhaps is the spirit behind the serene feel this lamp can create through the heavy-looking shade of mouth-blown glass.

Here’s what Koskinen has to say on the design: “The basic idea was to create a lamp series with space and atmosphere. I put my trust in the natural material of glass, in its beauty and its changing reflections. The lamp series consists of a white and grey version that both, and in their own way, bring forward the beauty of electrical light. The lamps are at their best in the late evening, creating a cosy mood around them.”

That it does, definitely, though the cord sort of sticks out.

Koskinen is probably best known for his Block Lamp, a light bulb held inside two shaped pieces of clear glass. It , which is exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
